A Magical Christmas at Eden Early Years

At Eden Early Years, we believe the festive season is a time of wonder, joy, and magical memories. This is our first Christmas at Eden Early Years so we went above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences for the children, making this season truly special. Here’s a glimpse into the festive fun we had and how we brought the magic of Christmas to life.

A Visit to the Allotment and a Surprise from Santa

The excitement began with a delightful trip to the allotment, located just down the road from the nursery. The children enjoyed a hands-on experience crafting bird boxes with the help of the adults. We also brought along tuff trays filled with cut-out Christmas trees, which the children decorated with leaves, adding their own creative touches. To make the outing even more magical, Santa himself made a surprise appearance! Each child received a festive orange and had the chance to ring Santa's bell. The day was rounded off with a cosy storytime featuring Stick Man, accompanied by hot chocolate and mince pies, making it a truly enchanting experience for everyone.

Christmas Sing-alongs

Our nursery was alive with music and bell ringing during our Christmas Singalongs. Held on two special days in our extra curricular room, these events brought together children, parents, and staff to celebrate the season by singing along to popular Christmas tunes. The Frogs and Tadpoles groups took centre stage, enthusiastically ringing bells in time with the songs. It was heartwarming to see parents joining in the singing, adding to the festive cheer. Staff dressed as elves, and Santa made a special appearance afterward to greet everyone and take photos with the children and parents. These moments were not only filled with fun but also served as a wonderful way to strengthen the bonds between families and the nursery. We absolutely love having parents get involved and seeing the joy in their little ones' eyes as they share in these experiences!

Festive Feast & Festive Treats

The week before Christmas, we celebrated our ‘Christmas Dinner Day,’ where our talented Chef Sam prepared a delicious festive meal for both children and staff. The menu featured an array of seasonal vegetables, crispy potatoes, roasted parsnips, and a flavourful nut roast. Sam also created a turkey-inspired dish made from tofu and seitan, ensuring everyone had something to enjoy. To add a sweet touch, Sam baked some delectable mince pies and mincemeat pinwheels, which parents had the chance to try during our Christmas Singalong events.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry (about 320g)

  • 200g mincemeat (homemade or store-bought)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)

  • A sprinkle of sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

Creative Christmas Exploration

In the lead-up to Christmas, we filled our days with festive activities both inside the classroom and outdoors. Our Christmas-themed tuff trays were a big hit, brimming with seasonal treasures such as baubles, tinsel, and even creative setups inspired by themes like The Polar Express! From sparkling lights to sensory materials, these activities were thoughtfully designed to ignite curiosity and immerse the children in the magic of the season.

Our toddlers and babies especially loved exploring the different textures, colours, and sounds, with wide-eyed wonder and smiles. Whether they were feeling the crunch of "snow" or decorating tiny trees with natural materials, every moment was an opportunity for discovery.
