Position Overview:

Eden Early Years is seeking an ambitious Sous Chef to join our team, sharing our passion for fresh, plant-based food. You will work in our childcare nursery kitchen and assist our head chef, who boasts years of experience cooking for prestigious events and celebrities.

We highly value motivation and dedication, but above all, reliability and trustworthiness are essential. As a small and growing independent business, our success hinges on our team. Each day, you'll prepare amazing food mostly from scratch using high-quality ingredients sourced from reliable suppliers.


This role is diverse; you may start by crafting fresh pastries in the morning for parents, then prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for our children - think the finest plant-based foods, cooked with local ingredients and herbs from our allotment. You'll also have the opportunity to host cookery sessions with children and assist in organising our supplier days, where we promote local suppliers and showcase our exceptional food to the community. Overall, we are seeking someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, a shared passion for fresh food, and the ability to help us set a new standard for Nursery cuisine.

The ideal candidate:

You must be highly motivated and enthusiastic. Passion, a great work ethic and the ability to work positively within a kitchen team is critical. A relevant qualification in catering is preferred and the ability to craft creative pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan menus, whilst keeping on-top of dietary requirements and allergens is a must.

We offer flexible hours where possible, some occasional weekend availability will be required, but the majority of this role will be weekdays. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily kitchen operations in collaboration with the head chef.

  • Develop and curate seasonal menus tailored to the nutritional needs of our children.

  • Maintain oversight of kitchen budgets to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Cultivate strong partnerships with local suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability.

  • Collaborate effectively with a diverse team, including directors, teachers, and our children.

  • Occasionally facilitate cookery sessions for both children and staff.

  • Uphold rigorous food safety and hygiene standards at all times.

  • Assist in organising "supplier days" to showcase local produce to the community.

  • Adhere to our environmental sustainability values, ensuring practices align with our commitment to the environment.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant qualification in catering.

  • Level 3 food safety awards (minimum)

  • Level 2 workplace health and safety award (minimum)

  • 3+ years experience working in catering.

  • Relevant experience managing a kitchen budget.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

  • Proficiency to speak fluent English.

  • Right to work in the UK.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position based at our premises in Filton, Bristol, working Monday to Friday during nursery opening hours. Applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and provide satisfactory references prior to employment.
